Paterson, New Jersey (Passaic County) Bankruptcy Cases, Judges and Trustees
As your local bankruptcy lawyer, I file bankruptcy cases for clients in Paterson and other parts of Passaic County. The Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey is split into three parts or vicinages. Bankruptcy cases filed in Paterson or Passaic County will be held in the Bankruptcy Court located in Newark, New Jersey. Trustee meetings or meetings of creditors for Passaic County are also held in Newark, at One Newark Center, 14th Floor, located on the corner of Raymond Boulevard and McCarter Highway (Route 21).
Judges Gambardella, Steckroth, Stern and Winfield are in charge of bankruptcy cases for Passaic County. However, in most Chapter 7 cases, you never see a judge, and only deal with a chapter 7 trustee assigned by the U.S. Trustees Office.
If you file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case, your filing will be referred to a panel of Bankruptcy Trustees. One of the Trustees from the panel will be assigned to your bankruptcy. Once assigned, that chapter 7 trustee will be in charge until the bankruptcy is over, the Trustee files a final report, and the judge releases him or her from your case. Some of the trustees have their own bankruptcy practices and file bankruptcies for other debtors, but they cannot preside over their own client's bankruptcies.
If you file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy in Passaic County, the Chapter 13 Standing Trustee for the Newark vicinage will take charge. Her name is Marie-Ann Greenberg and she is a former creditors' attorney. Either Ms. Greenberg or one of her assistants will conduct your meeting of creditors.
